Treats
Many children hand out treats, since so many birthdays are being celebrated. Please take into consideration that the treats are healthy, the teachers would also prefer to join in the healthy treats! The children distribute their treats in their group, but also like to make rounds on their own floor. Meaning that the infants and groups 3 and 4 remain downstairs and middle and upper groups stay on the first floor. (including group 6).
Swimming and lunch hour
The swimming lessons have started already. Children in groups 5 and 5-6 have lessons in the Blinkerd, as usual, but children of group 6 and Taal in the Waterthor (teacher Dirk-Jan). Children of groups 5 and 5-6 return to school earlier than children of group 6 all of these children have the chance to spend their lunch hour at school, but the children of groups 5 and 5-6 also get the chance to have lunch at home. The children of group 6 all spend their lunch hour at school, which is free of charge on Monday.
Kinderboekenweek
Wednesday 5 October, the Kinderboekenweek will be started with. This year, the theme will be opa`s en oma`s (Grandparents) which also fits with a some history.
This can also be translated to Scheveningen and its history, which is very nice: SCOH schools located in Scheveningen will co-operate in exploring the theme. Together with these other schools, children of groups 4-8 will visit Zuiderstrandtheater on 11 October.
The groups 1-3 will have lessons at Muzee, which they will visit with a special train. A number of library visits have also been planned for. Just like last year, we will also have real authors in our school telling the children about their work and their books. Wednesday 12 October we will close the theme with a book market held at our school. The parental council helped us out by decorating the school in relation to the theme of historic Scheveningen (grandparents) and a little bit about the theme herfst (fall).
Kwink
This year, we will start working with Kwink. This is a teaching method for social and emotional learning at school, for which we chose. This is an online teaching method for all groups in basisonderwijs (elementary school). The teaching method aims on prevention (of for instance teasing at school) and the power of a safe group. Other subjects will also be worked on for instance citizenship, social integration and knowledge in working with (social)media. Your child will profit from an optimal cooperation between school and home. Children experience a good feeling of safety when you are clear about values and regulations. Kwink teaching method stimulates cooperation between school and parents with assignments and additional information for at home. With Kwink we meet legal requirements for social safety policy at school and with this method we work on core goals like “Orientation on yourself and the world”. Hooray
A school year in which many babies are being born and are being expected. Teacher Jessica (group 4a) is also expecting her baby in January. In December, she will be able to enjoy her leave of absence. Congratulations to teacher Jessica and her husband, we wish them lots of luck.

Do not hesitate to contact the group teacher if you are interested. Together with the group teacher, you could be working on extra activities for the group. Everything to support the teacher and to keep warm relations with the school.

Project the zakmes (the pocket knife)
Children in groups 5, 6 and 5/6 have a special hour related to the theme of social perception, for instance being friends, making friends and keeping them. Lessons are taken care of by Wil van Kessel of Centrum 1622. Every week, children will watch a small part of the movie that has the identical name Het zakmes.

Jumbo savings campaign; This week will be the final week; if everyone could still do their groceries at Jumbo and make sure to hand in the cards at school, then the points can still be added to our school points… (By now, we already have over 1000 points!!!)
Swimming
Please inform the teacher if you are interested in guiding the children to the swimming pool; when more parents help out we will be able to make a schedule. We have arranged bus transport for the children, which needs to be paid for. This is an amount of €24, we would prefer it if it could be paid into our school bank account NL65ABNA0580598128. We want to thank you in advance.
Report cards
On Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 November, the report cards will be handed out.
News letter
So far, you were used to receiving a newsletter every week. This will change. Every first week of the month you will receive a newsletter on paper with a monthly calendar. This newsletter has been placed on our school website. Please read it, since it has important information regarding our school, education in general and a whole lot more.
Lunch hour and its payments
Cards for lunch can still be bought with Ms Hanny on Tuesdays and Fridays. It goes without saying that we would also appreciate payments through our school bank account. (NL65ABNA0580598128) Please mention your child’s name and group and of course that the payment is being made for overblijf. For an entire year it will be an amount of €180 for bovenbouw (groups 5-8). For six months this amount is €90 (which is cheaper than buying cards) For onderbouw (groups 1-4) the amount for an entire year is €140. It is not possible to pay for one time only. A card of for instance €5 will last for quite a while.
When you made a payment for the entire year (or for 6 months) the teacher will be informed about that and when another payment is due. When arrears in payments occur for children who like to spend their lunch hour at school it is only possible when the arrears have been wiped off. Parents/ care takers will be informed with a letter when arrears occur.
Parental class Oudercursus
For parents and care takers of young children we have the class called Goed, Beter, Best. Every Wednesday morning at 8.30am we have a class for parents of infants and toddlers. You will then receive a folder with materials and information on young children and their development. The class is meant to inform you on the themes that are being used in the playgroups and infant groups.
Every Friday morning ROC Mondriaan will take care of Dutch language lessons for parents. These lessons also start at 8.30am.

As of Monday 3 October, the toddlers start with the theme:Dit ben ik This is me
In this theme the children will tell about themselves and their family.
Tuesday 4 October, we have invited grandparents of the toddlers for a nice gymnastics activity. This morning, the children will also be read to, since the Kinderboekenweek will also start the next day. That theme is called Voor altijd Jong Forever Young.
We have added a special asignment for at home to the theme letter: who are you, where and how do you and your family live. This way, the children take a closer look at them selves using a mirror. We decorated the different corners with challenging materials where the todlers get to discover to their hearts content.
