Theme Kinderboekenweek: Raar maar waar! (funny but true!)
kinderboekenweek
Kinderboekenweek
the Kinderboekenweek will soon start. This year, the theme will have everything to do with nature, science and technical issues. We will be doing this around the picture book called ‘Een gat in mijn emmer’ written by Ingrid and Dieter Schubert. As of next week, we like to ask the children to take fall items to school, such as: colored leafs, chest nuts, oak nuts and other types of fall fruits.
On 14th October we will have our annual bookmarket. This Wednesday, after school hours (as of 12.15pm) we like to welcome you to buy books for the children to read at home in our school. This year, we will have a visit of true authors. In groups 5, 6, 7 and 8 this will be Aby Hartog, who will tell the children all about discovering, nature and animals. In groups 3 and 4, the auther Gerard van Gemert will come by. In the infant groups we will receive a couple of authors called Marc and Louise Sekreve, which will be a blast! The visits are planned for on 8th (Infant groups) and 9th October (other groups) At the book market we will have numerous titles written by these authors.
School starts: Once you heard the second bell (at 8.30am) the teachers really need to start their lessons. In case you (or the child) is late please say your goodbye in the corridor and let your child enter the group alone, this way the disruption of the start of the lessons is minimalized.
Klassenouders (Parents related to the group)
Many times we appeal in our news letter for parents who want to help us out with walking to the library or other type of help with an activity in or outside the school. (like Museon) We are looking for parents who want to be more involved with activities our school organises. With this news letter we would like to add a separate letter with additional information, with which you could let the teacher know that you are interested and also when you have ideas yourself you could contact the group teacher yourself to discuss your ideas.
Wheely shoes
In our school the children are not allowed to slide on wheels, which means that the children need to be able to remove the wheels themselves.
Mission
We would like to continue collecting money for the charity Watoto, for another year. Every group has their own box where children get to donate money on regular basis. So far, we have saved an amount of €600 which is a beautiful amount; perhaps we could make turn that into an amount of €1,000. With which children can be taken care of in their own village, once children no longer have parents to take care of them.
Choir
It is so nice to see that the children are enthusiastic about singing. Since quite a number of children really like to join it would be better to not have it during school hours. That is why we would like to change the time and practice between 12.30pm and 1pm. At first, the children get the chance to eat and afterwards play outside for a couple of minutes and start downstairs in Ms Joyce’s group. The children who like to join in the choir, get the chance to spend their lunch hour at school free of charge.
Sinterklaas
Just like other years, we hope to turn it into a nice festivity for the children and hope to be able to follow the headlines from Sinterklaasjournaal.
Lunch cards and parental fee
Lunch cards can be bought with Ms Hannie, upstairs in the kitchen. Did you know that it is also possible to buy your lunch card through your own bank account? If you would like to do so, please use our school bank account with number NL65ABNA0580598128, remember to mention your child’s name and group and that you want to purchase a lunch card. Thank you. It is also possible to pay for the entire year. For children in bovenbouw, that would be an amount of €180 and for half the year an amount of €90. In onderbouw that will be an amount of €140 for the entire year(€70 for six months) This is with a discount, compared to buying cards all year long. It is no longer possible to pay for overblijf just once. A card of, for example €5 keeps its value for a long time.
The parental fee is still an amount of €32.50. Please make sure you use our school number to pay this amount for all the extra activities our school has to offer the children with help of our enthusiast members of ouderraad. (parental council) The amount will also be paid in full if your child is in possession of Ooievaarspas, please make sure you have the pass scanned with the administration, which is possible every day, except for Wednesday.
Department of Leerplicht
Every school day at 8.15am our doors open for children and their parents. All children head for their groups and the first bell rings at 8.25am and at 8.30am a second bell rings, which is the moment the teacher would really like to start teaching. When a child is too late the teacher will make note of it. When a child comes late for 3 times or more you will receive a letter urging you to make sure your child is at school on time. After 6 times we will invite you for a conversation, if you do not improve and come late 9 times or more we have the obligation to inform leerplicht and after 12 times leerplicht will invite you for a conversation. Sometimes parents receive a warning but most of the times you can expect a monetary penalty, since this type of absence is usually illegitimate. Additional information can be found on www.leerplicht.denhaag.nl.
Please inform the school every day before the school starts when your child is ill and when he or she has to visit a GP or other doctor, please make sure the teacher receives a copy of your appointment. Thank you.
Pauzefit This year as well, we will work with pauzefit, the children spending their lunch hour at school will be able to attend the sports lessons during their lunch hour guided by a qualified teacher of the foundation called Wijs. It goes without saying that the children do get time to eat quietly as well
Huiswerkbegeleiding For children of groups 7 and 8 only we have arranged homework guidance, for which you can hand in an application with the group teacher. We will start on Thursday 17th September between 3 and 4pm. The final lesson will be on Thursday 9th June 2016.

Social worker related to Oranjeschool
I would like to make use of this occasion to introduce myself. My name is Annemieke van Mulligen and I am social worker related to Oranjeschool. Every Wednesday as of 8.30am and on Thursday as of 1pm I am at the school where you could come by for a conversation. The topics I work on are very diverse, for instance:
• When your child is being teased, teases himself or has difficulties with school(work)
• When your child has been troubled by difficulties
• When your child has problems with listening or fights a lot
• When your child’s self-confidence is low
When your family is going through a rough period (for instance due to a divorce, troubles of different natures, financial or otherwise) In a first conversation I would like to take a closer look at your situation and together we will find out which steps need to be taken. Perhaps you might need another type of help. The social worker related to school is free of charge and works confidentially. Should you want to contact me, please feel free to give me a call on: 06-41726944 or by sending me an e-mail: a.vanmulligen@smw-basisschool.nl Yours truly,
Annemieke van Mulligen
Infants This week, we will start with Kinderboekenweek. We will work on a theme that has everything to do with science, nature and technical issues. We will have several activities planned around the picture book called “Een gat in mijn emmer (A hole in my bucket)” written by Ingrid and Dieter Schubert. The main character Beer has a discovered a hole in his bucket. How do we get to help him out solving the problem, so he gets to use the bucket again. We will be working with different materials. Next Thursday, we will have a visit of writers Mark and Louise Sekrève, who write together. They will tell us about writing a book and illustrating it.
In the groups we will pay attention to the weather and seasons. Fall is about to start, and during the holiday it would be nice to make a stroll in fall atmosphere. The children could even collect several materials related to fall. In the groups we will be creating a special table with the fall theme, which we like to decorate with fall materials. We are also collecting glass bottles. (bottles in the size of a large Hak bottle)
VakantiepasClub
Special club for holidays Vakantiepas club (VP) fall holiday edition
The creators of the summer edition of Vakantiepas created one for the fall holiday as well. Several nice activities can be done with discounts, or sometimes even free of charge. Examples are baking an omelette in the ecologic cooking school of Yael, enjoying a day in Duinrell, playing a game of Bingo with elderly people living in Oostduin woonzorg centre.
School children attending elementary schools can apply as club member through the website www.kindervakantiepas.nl. Two weeks before every school holiday, they will receive an e-mail with a digital edition of the Vakantiepas (including discount coupons) and a link to the website where activities are being described. Should your child not be a VP club member, do not hesitate to apply for the digital Vakantiepas through www.kindervakantiepas.nl.
UKKEPUKKIES.
This week, we have started working on the theme “Ontdekken” (discovering). During the next two weeks, the children will discover what happens to water when you add in a piece of crêpe paper to it, or when you use a strainer and put in sand. The children will also find out what they can use a funnel or a sieve for. What do stones or bits of moss feel (or smell) like? We hope to enjoy a learningful theme, in which the children get to discover how to use the different materials.
Spelinloop activities for the theme ”ontdekken”
Thursday 8th October for all groups
Wednesday 14th October for the red group.
Friday 16th October for yellow and blue group.
