Sinterklaas
Friday 5th December; Sinterklaas will pay our school a visit with a number of Pieten. We are all looking forward to this event. As of 8.15am children will be welcome with a parent and/or care-taker. If children could walk to their teacher (without parents) in the special area meant for their group (marked on the school yard with crayon) If all parents could please stand on the side so that all of the children will be able to see everything. With the newsletter on paper you will receive a drawn map. As of noon, all the children will have the afternoon off. We hope everyone will be able to enjoy “pakjesavond”. (celebrations for Sinterklaas)
Christmas festivities
Although we have not finished eating kruidnootjes, we are already busy organising Christmas festivities. We will be having a creative market on Thursday 18th December, in the afternoon, with Christmas theme where children can come with (grand)parents in order to participate in several different activities. It is important for you to know that the children have the afternoon off on Thursday 18th December. We expect all the children back with a guide for the festivities around 1.30pm. We will first be listening to the Christmas choir, which will be accompanied by children playing on a flute, a violin or a double bass. We like to finish this event around 4pm.
On Friday 19th December, the festivities start with a special breakfast in a Christmas atmosphere and celebrations for Christmas in the groups. At noon the Christmas holiday will start for all the children. You will be receiving additional information as soon as Sinterklaas leaves our country. (9th December next)
Sporttuinen The new brochure with information on Sporttuinen has been distributed last week. Additional information can be found in the attached letter about sporttuinen. We have also distributed a letter for lessons for children of groups 1-4 in our very own gymnastics hall, provided for by Ms Marielle Sabee. It is possible to register for both of the activities with Ms Marielle (as of 1st December). Lessons will start immediately after the Christmas holiday as of 5th January 2015 until Friday 20th March.
Lice check:
Hooray, we are free of lice! If we all could keep checking the children’s heads since the next check will be held on Wednesday 3rd December.
Lunch hour
Children can only spend their lunch hour at school when a card for lunch has been bought with Ms Hannie in the kitchen upstairs. Ms Hannie is available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Could you also please fill in the form at our school website? This way we get to make an overview for the teachers what the children’s regular days will be for having lunch at school. Without the lunch hour card children cannot spend their lunch hour at school. We like to thank you in advance.
Coming to school too late:
Many children still enter the school after the second bell, which is too late. We would like to stress that coming to school on time is a necessity. It is not good for anyone if children enter the classroom late. When children of groups 3-8 are late: it is no longer necessary to get a “red” card, since sometimes that could mean loss of time (and at times even disturbing the group twice). The teacher makes note of children that enter the group late. The first bell is at 8.25am, if everyone could make sure to be in the group at that time, the lessons could actually start at 8.30am. (second bell) When children come late to school too often we have the obligation to notify the Hague department for leerplicht, which is when children are late 9 times or more.
Calling sick
Could you please contact our school before school starts when your child is ill (which is at 8.30am) using phone number 070-3540457. This is new policy which we are obligated to do on account of leerplicht. We need to get a phone call every day from home as long as your child is ill(or not feeling well), preferably before the lessons start. This is another obligation of the department of leerplicht. The administration makes a round along the groups and in case the teacher had not yet received a message from you then you can expect a phone call from school. If we still do not get contact with you we are obliged to report that your child is absence illegitimately and when a child is absence more than 2 days we need to inform the department for leerplicht. That is the reason why we like to stress that you please let us know on daily basis that your child is absence, for which we like to thank you in advance. In case of an appointment for doctor(GP), dentist or any other appointment, please hand your child’s teacher a note to inform the teacher the appointment it concerns.
Trips: Group 5 will pay a visit to Museon on Thursday 11th December. The lesson will be at the end of this morning, which is why it would be best if all children spend their lunch hour at school. Could you please give your child €2 for the lesson and it goes without saying that you will be welcome to walk along with them.
Social worker related to school
In a first conversation she usually likes to discuss with you what steps need to be taken when solving a problem or issue. Sometimes it is important to seek other type of help. She will be able to inform you about the possibilities and might even help you out by contacting other organizations. Our social worker is free of charge and works confidentially.
Should you have any questions, do not hesitate, just contact her.

“Ukkepukkies”
We are so close… Friday 5th December we will also be able to enjoy Sinterklaas festivities. As of 8.10am we expect Sinterklaas to arrive at school, for which we expect all the children with a guide / parent. We heard that he will pay our children a visit in the group with Pieten. We like to wait for him at the school yard and afterwards, we like to continue festivities in the group until about 10am, when it will be time to take your child home again. We like to make it a morning to remember.
Activities for spelinloop with Christmas theme have been planned on Monday 8th December for all the groups.
Thursday 18th December Christmas in the groups:
Blue group 8.30am – 9.30am
Yellow group 9.30am – 10am
Red group 10.30am – 11.30am
Thursday 18th December we will have the celebrations for Christmas in the morning. We like to invite you with your child at the above mentioned times in the play group. In the afternoon, the children will be off. Between 4.15 and 4.30pm you will be able to bring your child along for a special Christmas dinner, which will take until 5.30pm. The children will then be waiting for you, since they will want to walk with you in a parade through the school surroundings with lanterns. Afterwards, the children will be ready to for a nice Christmas holiday. All children attending Ukkepukkies will be off on Friday morning.
Have a nice week!
