The letter also contains: the schedule for gymnastics and an invitation for conversations.
Infants
Hooray, we have started school again. The first two weeks of school we like to pay extra attention to the school routines. The children do need to get used to school after 6 weeks’ holiday.
Next week, we like to start with the theme called playing outside. In the course of the theme the children create (water) icecream, for which we like to pay attention to the following topics: different contents, weighing and measuring, experimenting with freezing, melting and tasting. As closure of the theme we like to consume our handmade icecreams together outside (on our school yard).
We will also pay a visit to the library, for which we like to ask two to four parents to walk with us. Please contact the group teacher if you are interested in walking along with us to the library.
• The group Zeeslakjes will be heading for the library on Thursday, 10th September at 10am and we leave school at 9.30am.
• The group Zeesterren will go on Friday 11th September at 09am uur, and will leave school at 8.30am.
• The group Zeepaardjes leave on Friday 11th September at 9.30am and have the appointment at 10am.
• The group Zeehondjes leave on Friday 18th September at 8.30am and have the appointment at 9am.
In the hall, we have a new info sign on which you will be able to find additional information on the infant groups – instead of the different pieces of paper on the group windows.
Lunch cards and payment
Lunch cards can be bought with Ms Hanny, but it would also be very nice if you could pay through your bank account, using NL65ABNA0580598128, mentioning your child’s name and group. (please remember to mention that it is for the purchase of a lunch card). We will be very thankful. For an entire year in the upper groups the expenses will be €180.00 and for six months it will be €90.00 (cheaper than the different cards). In the lower groups an entire year will be €140.00. The parental fee is still an amount of €32.50. Please use our school account to pay this amount, which we use for the additional activities to make the school year extra attractive. With help of our active and enthusiast Ouderraad (parent council).
Pauzefit This year as well, we will start with pauzefit, the children spending their lunch hour at school will be able to attend the sports lessons during their lunch hour guided by a qualified teacher of the foundation called Wijs. It goes without saying that the children do get time to eat quietly as well.
School swimming will start again.
Children of groups 5 and 6 will have swimming lessons on Monday mornings. We hope that a number of parents will be willing to guide them. For this purpose you have received an additional letter. For the swimming lessons we have arranged transport by bus, which costs €24 per child to be paid into our school account NL65ABNA0580598128, mentioning the child’s name and group number.
Homework guidance
For children of groups 7 and 8 we have arranged homework guidance, for which you can hand in an application with the group teacher. We will start on Thursday 17th September between 3 and 4pm. The final lesson will be on Thursday 9th June.
Introductory conversations
This year as well, we like to have introductory conversations for parents with the teachers. You can expect an invitation for 7th or 8th September.
Sporttuinen
We did not receive the new brochure just yet. You will be additionally informed when you get to register your children.
Dutch classes
The Dutch classes for parents will start again on 4th September. In the class you get to learn how to speak, listen and write in the Dutch language. We like to talk about your child’s school and about what your child learns in class. We practice conversations together. You extend your vocabulary, make sentences and learn about Dutch society. Extended school day; lessons taken care of by Skills for Kids will soon start again.
Applications for the first part can be done through the website: www.skillsforkids.nl/oranjeschool
The following lessons will be offered:
Infant theatre on Tuesdays between 3:15-4:15pm | groups 1,2
“Once upon a time…..”. The children experience getting acquainted with theatre rather quickly and with enthusiasm. Usually, children experience the lessons as fun and enjoy it a lot. Even children who are shy seem to loosen up. They practice to use their voice, express emotions and learn the difference between real and acting.
Design with residual items on Tuesdays between 3:15-4:15pm | groups 3,4
Why throw away every box, package and other material if you can use these to make all sorts of art works. In these lessons we like to create artworks using all sorts of residual items.
With a theme or topic children get the chance to use their imagination, which will result in true art works.
Technical science on Thursdays between 3:15-4:15pm | groups 5,6
Children are often interested in how and why. In these classes they will work on finding answers to several technical questions. Questions like how to create a power circle, how do robots work and what is a sturdy construction. Children receive answers to the questions with explanations but our vision is to make sure they mainly work with their hands.
Extreme sports on Fridays between 3:15-4:00 pm | groups 7,8
Had you always been interested in shooting with bow and arrow like Robin Hood? That is possible in our lessons, with guidance of a qualified instructor. We like to teach children to use their shoulder, back and arm muscles in the right way. When doing sports like that children need to focus as well. A child that knows how to concentrate is able to shoot nice arrows. That is not all; in this class you will also get acquainted with different other extreme sports that you otherwise do not do. Had you ever heard of Run Archery? That is a combination of running in a field (cross country) and shooting bow and arrow. Perhaps you also heard of street surfing? sports in which you learn different techniques (originally of golf surfing, skate boarding and snowboarding) children get to improve their balance but also their ability to concentrate. And what if children fall? Children do need to wear protective clothes like knee and wrist pads and a helmet in order to withstand it all. Great lessons for children who dare to take a chance?!
Special request:
do not smoke outside our school yard at the neighbours’ doorsteps and by no means leave any cigarette remains (butts and ashes) behind at their front doors. Thank you in advance!!!
Ukkepukkies and Samenspel
Spelenderwijs
We made it through the first school week!!! We look forward to the new school year. We have started quietly with a small group and the group will slowly grow in the course of the following weeks with new parents and their children between 2 and 2 ½ years old. Our group called spelenderwijs is every Wednesday morning between 8.30 and 10.30am, for children between 2 and 2 ½ years old.
UKKEPUKKIES
After a quiet first week, the children got used to being with us. As of this week we will start with the theme called “Hooray, a baby!”
Like you can all see that Ms Stephanie is expecting a baby and her maternity leave will soon start. Friday 25th September will be her last day at our play groups and hope to see her again in good healthy in the course of January next year (2016). Ms Stephanie will be replaced, of course and for her we arranged for someone to fill the gap permanently whose name is Priscilla Nijman. She will start on 20th September on the days that Ms Stephanie will still be there as well. That way, the children slowly get used to a new face.
The gymnastics lessons for the red and yellow group has changed. These two groups will have their gymnastics lessons on Tuesdays in the morning. Please make sure your child wears clothes in which they get to move easily. Think of a pair of leggings, or jogging trousers etc. Please do not wear tights on the days they have gymnastics?
Closed.
In the month September we will be closed on Monday 14th September in the afternoon and Tuesday 15th September the entire day due to Prinsjesdag.
First aid lessons for children On 29th September we like to take care of a class on first aid for children for parents of children attending the groups spelenderwijs or Ukkepukkies. A maximum of 20 persons can apply, meaning that we only have place for 5 parents of every group. We only have a couple of places left, please check the list if you can still join. Once the list is full, we will create a spare list, contact one of the teachers if that is the case and you want your name on that list.
Spelinloop activities
During the theme called “Hoera, een baby!” (Hooray, a baby) we will organise activities for spelinloop, like you have gotten used to. During the theme we will have an activity for spelinloop every week, for which we will ask you to stay for fifteen minutes longer. This will be at the start of the lessons. We will announce the schedule in this news letter (below) please take this in consideration and write it in your agenda. We will also hang up a schedule on the white board at the entrance.
