Newsletter no 17 (January) 2016

aPauzesport
SCOH proudly presents: the digital newsletter. For everyone who wants to stay informed on the new developments of an important player for education in The Hague and surroundings. In SCOH’s strategic plan of 2015 – 2018 the foundation determined a slogan: We will do this together (we doen het samen). Within the foundation as well as with business relations SCOH is looking for co-operation. About that co-operation and its effects, the foundation would like to inform many interested contacts. We would like to encourage you as well to register for the newsletter, which is possible through the new website: www.scoh.nl/over-scoh/inschrijven-nieuwsbrief.
Parking/ bringing and taking When picking up your child(ren) or bringing them to school, please make sure to park your car safely first and bring or pick up your child afterwards. At the moment, we receive complaints from the neighbors that many cars are being left in the street or even on sidewalks creating obstacles for traffic but for our other (small) children as well. For the neigbors it must be irritating to not being able to leave the house with a pram or even rollator in a safe way. We do count on your co-operation!
Entrance: Jan van Houtstraat
When using this entrance please use the doorbell if the door is closed but do not tap on the windows of any of the groups, once the lessons have started.
CITO This is the first week that the entire school is working very hard on the M tests for CITO. Different tests are being done like vocabulary, spelling, reading (DMT) and arithmetics. Every group works on one test per week. This week we will work on vocabulary for all the groups (3-7), except for group 8; who work on a different schedule. (but do the same tests) Even the infants work on tests: one for arithmetics and one for taal (language skills) The test results will be added to the next report cards. In the week of 8 th February we will finish this series of tests. It is not possible for the children to study for these tests. They can, however, make sure they go to bed on time so they are fit to make all tests.
Bicycles Could children of groups 7 and 8 please leave their bicycles in the bicycle racks next to the gymnastics hall, thank you in advance.
Klassenouders
On Thursday, we met the parents who mentioned to be interested as klassenouder. If you are still interested but you had no time to come to the meeting please contact your child’s teacher.
Trips: Our school visits the library and Museon regularly. For your information, a library subscription is free of charge for children.
Department of Leerplicht
Every school day, at 8.15am, our doors open for children and their parents. All children head for their groups and the first bell rings at 8.25am and at 8.30am a second bell rings, which is the moment the teacher would really like to start working. When a child is (too) late the teacher will make note of it. When a child comes late for 3 times or more you will receive a letter urging you to make sure your child is at school on time. After 6 times we will invite you for a conversation, if we do not notice improvement and your child is late 9 times or even more, we have the obligation to inform leerplicht and after 12 times leerplicht will invite you for a conversation. Sometimes parents receive a warning but most of the times you can expect a monetary penalty, since this type of absence is usually illegitimate. Additional information can be found on www.leerplicht.denhaag.nl.
Please inform the school every day when your child is ill, preferably before school starts. When he or she has to visit a GP or other doctor, please make sure the teacher receives a copy of your appointment. Thank you.
Important
In group 5 and the group Zeehondjes a child was reported ill with impetigo, which is contageous. Should you see any red spots combined with lots of itching, please make sure your child sees a GP. With antibiotics this will be over in no-time. Another disease has also been reported, called shingles. Fortunately, the children have not been tortured with head lice for a while; with the last check no nits or lice had been found with the children. Thanks for the checks.
Lunch hour and payments
Lunch cards are still available with Ms Hanny on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It is also possible to make payments through your bank account using NL65ABNA0580598128. Please remember to mention your child’s name, group and of course that the amount is meant for overblijf. It is cheaper to pay for the entire year; for bovenbouw this will be an amount of €180.00 and for onderbouw €140.00. For 6 months the amounts will be €90.00 and €70.00.
It is no longer possible to pay for one separate time. A card of, for instance €5.00, will not lose its value for quite some time. When you paid for the entire year or for 6 months, we will inform the teacher. The teacher will also let you know until when the payments are due. In case of a giant arrear in payments we will inform you through a letter that you need to wipe off the arrears before your child could spend its lunch hour at school again.
Parental fee:
The parental fee (Oranjeschool) is still an amount of €32.50. For children starting as of January, for this school year the amount will be €16.00. Please make sure this amount has been paid for, since we use it to pay for the additional activities our school offers the children with help of our enthusiast Ouderraad. (Many thanks for decorating our school) Therefore, we like to ask you to pay the parental fee! The money is being used to make sure all children get to join in the extra activities our school has to offer. The parental fee and payments for transport to the swimming pool can also be paid for by having the Ooievaarspas scanned at our school administration. This is possible every day, except for Wednesday. In some cases an amount will be left over, which will then be used to pay for the annual school trip. We try to keep the amount for the school trip at approximately €25.00.
TV West It is good to see that some groups and TV west are willing to co-operate in recordings for the programme called TROTS!!
The first takes will be on Thursday 28th January, after school hours between 3 and 4pm. Would one or perhaps a number of parents be interested to be at school as well, near the children’s group? Please contact Lidia or Janneke if you would be interested.
