Holiday
That is how we ended the latest newsletter and that is how we would like to start again; the holiday is over… Time flies when you are having fun and correct me if I am wrong; summer will really start this week.
Almost all the children have returned from their holiday and entered the school cheerful with a smile. After a while at home it always takes some getting used to the routine.
Teachers Leonie and Rick have become the proud parents of son Luc who is now still in hospital in an incubator. So far, both parents and doctors are positive.
Ms Debby and her Michael have also become mummy and daddy of a son whose name is Vince. We like to congratulate the parents with their son’s birth and hope the teachers will be able to enjoy their prosperous leave of absence. We have been able to arrange a new teacher in group 4, whose name is Jessica Loef. We would like to welcome her to Oranjeschool. Together with Ms Elise Mallegrom she will be the teacher of group 4a. In group Zeehondjes we are proud to welcome Ms Patricia.
On warm days like today, we want to promote children to bring extra water to school, for instance in a small bottle, a water bottle or a (lidded) mug.
Getting acquainted
Just like every year, we will invite parents and care-takers to get acquainted with the teacher in a 10 minutes’ conversation. This year, it will be on either Monday 5th or Tuesday 6th September. Conversations to get acquainted with the new teacher but the teacher will be able to inform you on the specific needs for the next school year. (some examples: things like home work, learning for tests and making sure assignments are being handed in on time) It would be nice if you could come to the conversation with your preparation. Let the teacher know about specific details about your child but the teacher would also like to hear from you what your expectations are. This way, the conversation can be mutual.
Klassenouders (Group related parents)
Last year, we started with the group related parents. Please inform the teacher if you are interested. Together you can then work on activities and other supplements for the group. (for instance a visit to the museum, festivities or other things) In September we would like to organise a meeting to give you additional information. We are still looking for a date that would suit all teachers.

Children attending Taalklas and who do not have a swimming diploma will get the chance to join the swimming lessons as well. You will receive the correct timetable in a separate letter. Should you be interested in guiding the group to swimming lessons, please contact your group teacher. When more parents apply it will be easier to make a schedule. For transporting the children to the swimming pool we have arranged bus transport, which costs €24.00 per child and which can be paid using our school bank account number NL65ABNA0580598128. Please mention your child’s name and group and of course that the payment is being made for zwemles.
News letter
So far, you were used to receiving a newsletter every week. This will change. Every first week of the month you will receive a newsletter with a monthly calendar. The newsletter is also being placed on the website. Please read it, since it has important information regarding our school, education in general and a whole lot more.
Lunch hour and its payments
Cards for lunch can still be bought with Ms Hanny on Tuesdays and Fridays. It goes without saying that we would also appreciate payments through our school bank account. (NL65ABNA0580598128) Please mention your child’s name and group and of course that the payment is being made for overblijf. For an entire year it will be an amount of €180 for bovenbouw (groups 5-8). For six months this amount is €90 (which is cheaper than buying separate cards) For onderbouw (groups 1-4) the amount for an entire year is €140. It is not possible to pay for one single time only. A card of for instance €5 will last for quite a while. When you made a payment for the entire year (or for 6 months) the teacher will be informed about that and when another payment is due. When giant arrear in payments occur we will inform you (through a letter) that you need to wipe off the arrears before your child can spend its lunch hour at school again.
Parental class
For parents and care takers of young children we have the class called Goed, Beter, Best. Every Wednesday morning at 8.30am we have a class for parents of infants and toddlers. You will then receive a folder with materials and information on young children and their development. The class is meant to inform you on the themes that are being used in the playgroups and infant groups.
Every Friday morning ROC Mondriaan will take care of Dutch language lessons for parents. These lessons will start on 25th August and will also start at 8.30am. We would like to welcome parents who are interested!
Kwink
This year, we will start working with Kwink. This is a teaching method for social and emotional learning at school. This is an online teaching method for all groups in basisonderwijs (elementary school). The teaching method aims on prevention (of for instance teasing at school) and the power of a safe group. Other subjects that we will work on are for instance citizenship, social integration and knowledge in working with (social)media. Your child will profit from an optimal cooperation between school and home. Children experience a good feeling of safety when you are clear about rules, regulations and values. When a child is aware that both with parents and at school they can talk about things that bother them. Kwink likes to stimulate cooperation with parents by assignments and information for at home. Kwink is the teaching method we chose to use since we needed to meet legal requirements for a social safety policy and this way we will work on the core purpose called “orientation on yourself and the world”.
