Watoto
Soon, it will be holiday. We wish everyone a nice holiday and hope to see everyone again on Monday 29th February. (an extra day on account of leap year!) Enjoy your holiday!
Vakantiebijbelklub
During the holiday, the church called Prinses Juliana (located at Tesselseplein) will be organising the Vakantiebijbelklub in “Ons Centrum” located at Tesselsestraat 59. Throughout the school we hung several posters for children and hope that many children will be able to join the club. When you are interested for additional information on the club contact Arjo vd Steen who you can contact through email on arjo.pjk@gmail.com.

Parking; picking up and taking to school
When you come to school to pick up your child(ren) or when taking them to school; please make sure to find yourself a parking space first. At the moment, we receive complaints from neighbors that many cars are being left in the street or even on sidewalks creating obstacles for traffic but for our (small) children as well. For the neigbors it must be irritating to not being able to leave the house with a pram or even rollator in a safe way. We do count on your co-operation! Unfortunately, we realise that not everyone is aware of the effects of wrongly parking the car. The police officer related to this quarter will start checking on wrongly parked cars as well.
Entrance Jan van Houtstraat
When using this entrance please use the doorbell if the door is closed but do not tap on the windows of any of the groups, once the lessons started. It would even be wiser to walk around the building towards the main entrance.
CITO
All groups have finished their tests by now. In the next report cards you will be able to see the results.
Bicycles Could children of groups 7 and 8 please leave their bicycles in the bicycle racks next to the gymnastics hall, thank you in advance. Please make sure that the bicycles that have been parked on the big playground are being placed in the racks.
Trips: Our school visits the library and Museon regularly. For your information, a library subscription is free of charge for children.
Group 4
Monday 29th February next, immediately after the holiday, group 4 will visit Zuiderstrandtheater for a performance called “The pindakaasprins”. This performance will start at 1pm, which is why we like to have a joint lunch at school. Please remember to give your child a lunch package for that day.
Since we now have a parent related to the group, Ms Miranda Pronk (Quinty’s mom) who will contact some parents for guidance. It goes without saying that you could also contact her to let her know that you are interested. For every child a fee of €2 is necessary. Please make sure to pay this amount with the group teacher as soon as possible.
Zagazoo, after school care
Were you aware that our school co-operates with Triodus for after school care? We call it BSO, which is located in our building. The Zagazoo makes sure children receive after school care between 3pm and 6pm. Ms Deborah and Ms Lisette like to guide activities and prepare a snack for children. They make sure the children enjoy themselves. The Zagazoo is also available for day care during holidays or other days that the school is not open (for instance a study day) between 7.30 am and 6pm. Do not hesitate to walk by the Zagazoo for additional information.
Department of Leerplicht
Every school day, at 8.15am, our doors open for children and their parents. All children head for their groups and the first bell rings at 8.25am and at 8.30am a second bell rings, which is the moment the teacher would really like to start working. When a child is (too) late the teacher will make note of it. When a child comes late for 3 times or more you will receive a letter urging you to make sure your child is at school on time. After 6 times we will invite you for a conversation, if we do not notice improvement and your child is late 9 times or even more, we have the obligation to inform leerplicht and after 12 times leerplicht will invite you for a conversation. Sometimes parents receive a warning but most of the times you can expect a monetary penalty, since this type of absence is usually illegitimate. Additional information can be found on www.leerplicht.denhaag.nl.
Please inform the school every day when your child is ill, preferably before school starts. When he or she has to visit a GP or other doctor, please make sure the teacher receives a copy of your appointment. Thank you.
Lunch hour and payments
Lunch cards are still available with Ms Hanny on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It is also possible to make payments through your bank account using NL65ABNA0580598128. Please remember to mention your child’s name, group and of course that the amount is meant for overblijf. It is cheaper to pay for the entire year; for bovenbouw this will be an amount of €180.00 and for onderbouw €140.00. For 6 months the amounts will be €90.00 and €70.00.
It is no longer possible to pay for one separate time. A card of, for instance €5.00, will not lose its value for quite some time. When you paid for the entire year or for 6 months, we will inform the teacher. The teacher will also let you know until when the payments are due. In case of a giant arrear in payments we will inform you through a letter that you need to wipe off the arrears before your child could spend its lunch hour at school again.
Parental fee
The parental fee (Oranjeschool) is still an amount of €32.50. For children starting as of January, for this school year the amount will be €16.00. Please make sure this amount has been paid for, since we use it to pay for the additional activities our school offers the children with help of our enthusiast members of Ouderraad. (Many thanks for decorating our school) Therefore, we like to ask you to pay the parental fee! The money is being used to make sure all children get to join in the extra activities our school has to offer. The parental fee and payments for transport to the swimming pool can also be paid for by having the Ooievaarspas scanned at our school administration. This is possible every day, except for Wednesday. In some cases an amount will be left over, which will then be used to pay for the annual school trip. We try to keep the amount for the school trip at approximately €25.00.
Klassenouders
After the meeting, the parents related to the groups have started which means that a parent might ask you to help with the organisation of an activity for that group; all to support the teacher.
Report cards
This week, the teacher needs to have all report cards.
Watoto It was so good to see that so many children went out of their way to collect this much money! The amount was: €1250.- We also want to thank the children of Watoto choir, some amazing performance!
VP Club
It is almost time for spring holiday. Members of VP club do not need to get bored, since the creators of Summer edition of VP club put together a number of super cool activities for children. A number of examples are: eating falafel at Love and Peas, doing interesting tests at a special studio for children or visit a performance called ‘20.000 mijlen onder zee’ (20,000 miles below sea level) in theatre Appeltheater or even a movie in cinema called Nutshuis.
Children of elementary schools get to apply for membership of VP Club. Members will then receive an email with coupons two weeks before every school holiday with a link to the websites and/or activities.
Zij krijgen dan 2 weken vóór elke schoolvakantie een mailtje met VakantiePas kortingsbonnen
Should your child not be member of VP Club yet, please apply on www.vakantiepas.nl.
