Study day: Wednesday 9th December next.
We do not make it a habit to anounce a study day at this short notice. However, we do have a study day on Wednesday 9th December next for our teachers, which means the children have no school!
LIBRARY
We like to pay additional attention to the importance of reading and like to stress that it is good for children being read to. Improvement of vocabulary, concentration and spelling are main advantages. On top of that they really enjoy the attention. In the library you will be able to find many books for them to read from but also books you can read for them, but also magazines, audio books and so much more. It is good to make it a habit paying a visit to the library every week. The library also has many titles available for electronic books like an e-reader as well. For children the library is free of charge.
Our school starts once the second bell rang, which is at 8.30am. All children are supposed to be in their groups by then, so the lessons can start. Should you (or your child) be late, please say your goodbyes in the hall and send your child into the group alone, so the lesson does not get disturbed too much. Children can be brought to the groups as of 8.15am, by then the doors open. Not earlier. Thank you.
Lost and found items
At this moment, right after the holiday many clothes are piled up in the area before the gymnastics hall. In the course of this week you can still go through the clothes to see what belongs to your child. After that, we will make sure that leftover clothes will be dropped off at the clothes container. (for instance the Red Cross).
Wheely shoes
The wheely shoes are not allowed in school. This means, that children coming to school wearing them need to be able to remove the wheels themselves.
Mission We would like to continue collecting money for the charity Watoto, for another year. Every group has their own box where children get to donate money on regular basis. So far, we have saved an amount of €600 which is a beautiful amount; perhaps we could turn that into an amount of €1,000. With which children can be taken care of in their own village, once children no longer have parents to take care of them.
Lunch cards and payment
Lunch cards can be bought with Ms Hannie (in the kitchen upstairs). But it would be very nice if you could make the payment through your bank account, using our school account with number NL65ABNA0580598128 please remember to mention your child’s name and group and to make sure that you mention it is for the payment of your child’s lunch hour. For an entire year in bovenbouw this will be an amount of €180 and for six months €90 (cheaper than buying the cards separately). In onderbouw the amounts will be €140 for the year and for six months €70. It is no longer possible to make loose payments for one lunch hour. A card of for example €5 does not lose its value. Should you pay for six months of the entire year, the teacher will be aware of that and in case of payment for six months, then the teacher will let you know when you need to pay again.
The parental fee is still an amount of €32.50, please pay this amount through our school account as well for all the extra’s our school has to offer the children with help of our enthusiast ouderraad. Both the parental fee and the fee for swimming can also be paid by having the Ooievaarspas scanned, which is possible every day except for Wednesday.
Department of Leerplicht
Every school day at 8.15am our doors open for children and their parents. All children head for their groups and the first bell rings at 8.25am and at 8.30am a second bell rings, which is the moment the teacher would really like to start teaching. When a child is too late the teacher will make note of it. When a child comes late for 3 times or more you will receive a letter urging you to make sure your child is at school on time. After 6 times we will invite you for a conversation, if you do not improve and come late 9 times or more we have the obligation to inform leerplicht and after 12 times leerplicht will invite you for a conversation. Sometimes parents receive a warning but most of the times you can expect a monetary penalty, since this type of absence is usually illegitimate. Additional information can be found on www.leerplicht.denhaag.nl.
Please inform the school every day before the school starts when your child is ill and when he or she has to visit a GP or other doctor, please make sure the teacher receives a copy of your appointment. Thank you.
Pauzefit This year as well, we will work with pauzefit, the children spending their lunch hour at school will be able to attend the sports lessons during their lunch hour guided by a qualified teacher of the foundation called Wijs. It goes without saying that the children do get time to eat quietly as well
Leave of absence Ms Elise Mallegrom will be enjoying her maternity leave during the following few weeks. We wish her lots of time to rest and above all a healthy sweet baby. Ms Marita van Bourgondië will replace her work with children in group 3.

UKKEPUKKIES
In the course of this week, we (Ukkepukkies and Oranjeschool infants) have started with the theme called “giants and gnomes”. During the theme we like to work with the toddlers on the concepts of big and small and everything to do with fall. We hope to learn a lot during the theme. We have also planned a number of activities for spelinloop. One is a walk through the woods. We like to go through the woods with the children and you to do a number of assignments. Like most of you know we do not leave the group without additional guidance. Which is why we like to stress that every child needs a guide to accompany him or her. Should you not be available, please make sure you arrange for someone else to be with your child during the walk? The walk will be planned on Friday 6th November, for which we like to leave the school between 8.45 and 9am. The walk will need the greater part of the morning.
