Study day on Wednesday 9th December. We do not like to make it a habit to anounce a study day at this short notice. However, we do have a study day on Wednesday 9th December next for our teachers, which means the children have no school!
Birth
We like to congratulate Ms Elise Mallegrom and her family with their son’s birth, his name is Laurens!
Infants (Kleuters)
We are very busy with the theme on Sinterklaas. The children enjoy it very much so. In the course of this week we like to bake pepernoten (Dutch spiced specialty). They work on the concepts of measuring and weighing. The children like that but especially enjoy eating them! Thursday 3rd December Ms Mariëlle Sabee will help them out practicing gymnastics for pieten. A day on which the children get to come to school dressed like Piet. Thursday afternoon, the children receive their special hat for Piet or Sint to take home so that they get to put on the hats for the special reception of Sinterklaas at the school yard on Friday morning. Friday morning we like to organise a special welcome for Sinterklaas all together at the school yard. For the events, the different groups have their own space at the school yard. The group teachers will be waiting for the children at the school yard..
Sint
Fortunately, Sinterklaas entered the country with his Pieten (helpers). Last week, on Saturday, they arrived in Meppel and afterwards in Scheveningen and now they seem to be active all over The Netherlands. We heard that we will receive a visit of Sinterklaas and all his Pieten on Friday 4th December, early in the morning.
This day, the children will be off in the afternoon. A festivity for children and all children will be welcoming Sinterklaas and the Pieten at the school yard. Perhaps the children could meet at the school yard a bit earlier, so the children (and the parents as well) will be singing to welcome the good old man. For all the groups we will reserve a part of the school yard, a separate space has been reserved for the parents. We will not go inside ujntil the Sint and his Pieten have arrived.
Parking/ Bringing & Picking up
When you come to school to bring or pick up your child(ren) please make sure you search for a parking spot in the neighborhood first and then bring or pick up your child to their group. At times so many cars are being parked in the street or on the sidewalks, creating chaos for (other) traffic or an unsafe situation. We hope to count on your co-operation.
Bicycles
Could children of groups 7 and 8 please use the bicycle racks next to the gymnastics hall.
Report cards We have just had the discussions for thereport cards and for our group 8 children’s school advice. We have seen practically all parents and or care-takers. Should you not have had the conversation, please make an appointment to have the discussion nonetheless.
Klassenouders
We are still receiving applications for which we are very thankful. In January, we would like to plan a meeting in order to find out what we can expect from each other and what the possibilities are. You could still apply for the position of klassenouder.
Trips: On regular basis, we have trips to the library or Museon. For the infants there is an information sign near Ms Jenny’s group.
The library (a subscription) is free of charge for children.
Christmas We still need to welcome Sinterklaas at our school, but we are already talking about our Christmas festivities. We would like to inform you on time since we like to celebrate Christmas with all the parents in church (Prinses Julianakerk) on Thursday 17th December next as of 5pm. Afterwards, we like to come back to school with the children in order to enjoy our Christmas dinner. That Thursday, the children will be off at noon and expect all our children to come to church at 5pm for the celebrations with songs and other festivities. Afterwards, we will come back to school to enjoy our Christmas dinner, after which you get to pick up your child at 7pm at school. So, We have the afternoon off, the church celebrations at 5pm and Christmas dinner at school. We like to wish you all a merry christmas. Friday 18th December, the children have a regular morning at school. The small children (groups 1-4) get to sleep in and will be able to walk in between 8.30 and 9.30. That day, we all get to enjoy a well-deserved holiday as of noon.

Department of Leerplicht
Every school day, at 8.15am our doors open for children and their parents. All children head for their groups and the first bell rings at 8.25am and at 8.30am a second bell rings, which is the moment the teacher would really like to start working. When a child is (too) late the teacher will make note of it. When a child comes late for 3 times or more you will receive a letter urging you to make sure your child is at school on time. After 6 times we will invite you for a conversation, if you do not improve and come late 9 times or even more, we have the obligation to inform leerplicht and after 12 times leerplicht will invite you for a conversation. Sometimes parents receive a warning but most of the times you can expect a monetary penalty, since this type of absence is usually illegitimate. Additional information can be found on www.leerplicht.denhaag.nl.
Please inform the school every day when your child is ill, before school starts. When he or she has to visit a GP or other doctor, please make sure the teacher receives a copy of your appointment. Thank you.
Lunch cards and payment(s)
Lunch cards can be bought with Ms Hannie (in the kitchen upstairs). But it would be easier if you could make the payment through your bank account, using our school account with number NL65ABNA0580598128 please remember to mention your child’s name and group and make sure that you mention it is for the payment of your child’s lunch hour (overblijf). For an entire year in bovenbouw this will be an amount of €180 and for six months €90 (cheaper than buying the cards separately). In onderbouw the amounts will be €140 for the year and for six months €70. It is no longer possible to make loose payments for one lunch hour. A card of, for example €5 does not lose its value. Should you pay for six months or the entire year, the teacher will be informed and in case of payment for six months, then the teacher will let you know when you need to pay again.
The parental fee is still an amount of €32.50, please pay this amount through our school account as well for all the extra’s our school has to offer the children with help of our enthusiast members of ouderraad. (we would like to thank them for their efforts in decorating the school) Both the parental fee and the fee for swimming can also be paid by having the Ooievaarspas scanned, which is possible every day except for Wednesday.
Sunday 29th November at the Haagse Hogeschool, the event for Nature and technique 2015 will take place.
