Parking/ bringing and picking up When picking up your child(ren) or bringing them to school, please make sure to park your car safely first and bring or pick up your child afterwards. At the moment, we receive complaints from neighbors that many cars are being left in the street or even on sidewalks creating obstacles for traffic but for our (small) children as well. For the neigbors it must be irritating to not being able to leave the house with a pram or even rollator in a safe way. We do count on your co-operation!
Dogs: In school or at the school yard dogs are not allowed. We can make exceptions when your child has to do his or her public speech on the topic of pets; it goes without saying that these exceptions will be possible after discussing it with the teacher.
Entrance Jan van Houtstraat:
When using this entrance please use the doorbell if the door is closed but do not tap on the windows of any of the groups, once the lessons started.
Infants
As of 8th February, we will start with the theme called “kunst” (art). The word says it all; it has everything to do with art; and the art of painting in particular. We will also discuss and experience other sorts of arts in the groups. On 9th February, we will even receive a visit of a true artist who will talk about art but he will get us acquainted with art in particular. The children will participate in a workshop and will work with the topic called KNUFFELDIER (cuddly toy). The theme letter will inform you on the books that children will be able to read and the possibilities you have to work on the theme at home. We wish you all lots of fun.

CITO
We are about to finish the third week of tests. Every group will be doing one test a week. Group 8 children will do the same tests but work in a different schedule. Next week, we will focus on rekenen (arithmetics) The scores will be reported in the next report cards. The tests will be finished in the week of 8th February. Children cannot really prepare for the tests, it does however, help to make sure the children go to bed on time so they are fit to do all tests.
Bicycles Could children of groups 7 and 8 please leave their bicycles in the bicycle racks next to the gymnastics hall, thank you in advance. Please make sure that the bicycles that have been parked on the big playground are being placed in the racks.
Trips: Our school visits the library and Museon regularly. For your information, a library subscription is free of charge for children.
Group 3B visits Museon
Monday 8th February, group 3b will visit Museon. Parents involved already received a separate letter stating that the children will not be back at school before noon. Which is why all children will have to spend their lunch hour at school. This is for one-time only and free of charge. We will leave school around 10.15am to walk to Museon. For the trip it is required to pay an amount of €2 for every child. Please hand it in with the teacher. It is still possible to contact the group teacher if you are interested in walking along with the group as guide.
Zagazoo, after school care
Were you aware that our school co-operates with Triodus for after school care? We call it BSO, which is located in our building. The Zagazoo makes sure children receive after school care between 3pm and 6pm. Ms Deborah and Ms Lisette like to guide activities and prepare a snack for children. They make sure the children enjoy themselves. The Zagazoo is also available for day care during holidays or other days that the school is not open (for instance a study day) between 7.30 am and 6pm. Do not hesitate to walk by the Zagazoo for additional information.
Department of Leerplicht
Every school day, at 8.15am, our doors open for children and their parents. All children head for their groups and the first bell rings at 8.25am and at 8.30am a second bell rings, which is the moment the teacher would really like to start working. When a child is (too) late the teacher will make note of it. When a child comes late for 3 times or more you will receive a letter urging you to make sure your child is at school on time. After 6 times we will invite you for a conversation, if we do not notice improvement and your child is late 9 times or even more, we have the obligation to inform leerplicht and after 12 times leerplicht will invite you for a conversation. Sometimes parents receive a warning but most of the times you can expect a monetary penalty, since this type of absence is usually illegitimate. Additional information can be found on www.leerplicht.denhaag.nl.
Please inform the school every day when your child is ill, preferably before school starts. When he or she has to visit a GP or other doctor, please make sure the teacher receives a copy of your appointment. Thank you.
Important
In group 5 and the group Zeehondjes a child was reported ill with impetigo, which is contageous. Should you see any red spots combined with lots of itching, please make sure your child sees a GP. With antibiotics this will be over in no-time. Another disease has also been reported, called shingles. Fortunately, the children have not been tortured with head lice for a while; with the last check no nits or lice had been found with the children. Thanks for the checks.
Lunch hour and payments
Lunch cards are still available with Ms Hanny on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. It is also possible to make payments through your bank account using NL65ABNA0580598128. Please remember to mention your child’s name, group and of course that the amount is meant for overblijf. It is cheaper to pay for the entire year; for bovenbouw this will be an amount of €180.00 and for onderbouw €140.00. For 6 months the amounts will be €90.00 and €70.00.
It is no longer possible to pay for one separate time. A card of, for instance €5.00, will not lose its value for quite some time. When you paid for the entire year or for 6 months, we will inform the teacher. The teacher will also let you know until when the payments are due. In case of a giant arrear in payments we will inform you through a letter that you need to wipe off the arrears before your child could spend its lunch hour at school again.
Parental fee
The parental fee (Oranjeschool) is still an amount of €32.50. For children starting as of January, for this school year the amount will be €16.00. Please make sure this amount has been paid for, since we use it to pay for the additional activities our school offers the children with help of our enthusiast members of Ouderraad. (Many thanks for decorating our school) Therefore, we like to ask you to pay the parental fee! The money is being used to make sure all children get to join in the extra activities our school has to offer. The parental fee and payments for transport to the swimming pool can also be paid for by having the Ooievaarspas scanned at our school administration. This is possible every day, except for Wednesday. In some cases an amount will be left over, which will then be used to pay for the annual school trip. We try to keep the amount for the school trip at approximately €25.00.
Klassenouders
After the meeting, the parents related to the groups have started which means that a parent might ask you to help with the organisation of an activity for that group; all to support the teacher.
Please hand in your report cards! By the end of this week, all report cards are supposed to be at school.
Watoto
So nice to see that everyone is involved in the fundraising for Watoto; many money boxes (houses) have already been returned – with content. For which we like to thank everyone on behalf of Watoto. You still have another two weeks to return the house to your teacher. After their performance for the school, on 12th February, we like to hand the children of Watoto a check with the total amount. Try your very best to help us with a larger amount for the check; perhaps you could fill another box?
